DUO WITH KATIE NOONAN (VOICE)
Karin and Katie Noonan have an intuitive musical connection that has developed over the course of the 20 years of their creative relationship. Their collaborations to date have earned them an ARIA Award and widespread praise. Their latest co-creation, Songs of the Southern Skies Volume 2 once again promises to enchant national audiences and is set for release in September.
Together they return to their acclaimed Southern Skies catalogue reinterpreting some of their favourite songs by antipodean artists - this time focusing on some of our finest female artists. Performing a varied program with reimagined arrangements of songs by artists such as Aunty Ruby Hunter, Missy Higgins, Sia, Kate Ceberano, Sarah Blasko and more as well as revisiting some favourites from the first Southern Skies instalment.
What began as a chance encounter at a festival twelve years ago, resulting in an impromptu performance of a couple of short songs, has now led to a significant ongoing musical partnership between two of Australia's most loved female artists.
Karin has been collaborating with multi platinum selling, ARIA award-winning songstress Noonan as a duo since 2011 and their collaboration has resulted in three CD projects, sold out Australian tours, two ARIA nominations for their first full length album, Songs of the Southern Skies, and an ARIA award for Best World Music Album for Songs of the Latin Skies.
Their first album, the EP Songs from the British Isles featured some of the greatest songs Great Britain has produced through the ages. Schaupp and Noonan's rendition of Sting's Roxanne, from this EP remained in the top three of the AMRAP AIR IT charts for four weeks.
Their second album Songs of the Southern Skies featured homegrown composers and songwriters from Australia and New Zealand and includes several distinguished guests like Iva Davies, Claire Bowditch, Diana Doherty, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu and others. It includes world premiere recordings of new works by Elena Kats-Chernin and Australian song composition competition winner, Andrew Georg. Together, Karin and Katie have created a unique musical style, incorporating their combined diverse musical experience into a boundary-less form with broad appeal.
Karin and Katie's third album, Songs of the Latin Skies, was released in February 2017. The album Songs of The Latin Skies Comprising thirteen tracks, this album pays homage to this wonderful genre and showcasing two of Australia’s most accomplished talents at their finest. Between March and June 2017, Karin and Katie toured nationally, thrilling and delighting audiences. In October 2017, Karin and Katie received the ARIA award for Best World Music Album.
The Songs of the Southern Skies Volume 2 launches September 2024, and the national album tour commences on October 6 in Parramatta with intimate live performances scheduled throughout November in Canberra, Queensland, Victoria, NSW and Tasmania, concluding in Adelaide on December 7.
